A Successful Sugery!

True to form, Angie did great today during surgery.  She checked in at the hospital at about 11am. The surgery went more quickly than expected, wrapping up at about 4 hours.  After a few hours of recovery time, Angie was taken to her room around 8pm and Scott and I were able to visit with her.  She was sleepy from meds but already able to talk far better than I imagined. She definitely has some recovering to do but was in good spirits considering what an eventful day it had been. 

The doctors had very positive things to report and said that Angie responded very well to the anesthesia and that the surgery went off without a hitch. The best news is that they were encouraged to see that the tumor was smaller than expected from the x-rays.  The tumor was entirely encased within the jawbone and this means that the odds of this problem affecting Angie again are highly unlikely.  WHOOOOP!

Scott will be spending tonight at the hospital with Angie.  Assuming that Angie progresses the way her doctors want to see, the plan is for Angie to hopefully check out of the hospital tomorrow afternoon and head home.  At that point, to ensure that her needs are properly met at home, we discussed whether she would summon Scott with a real bell or with an iPhone app that just sounds like a bell whenever she needs something. :)

A Friday morning update: So far so good.  Angie has had a good morning so far and will be getting up for a walk at some point later in the morning.  Remember, her hip was kind enough to donate some bone to her jaw, so her medical team is making sure that both surgery sites are healing properly and that she is able to walk a bit before leaving the hospital.  If all goes well, Scott and Angie will be heading home this evening.  Godspeed!  "...one giant leap for Angiekind..."
